iPhone and Android updates

We’ve been working really hard on the iPhone and Android JotNot applications. We’ve just released a standalone iPhone version! You can learn more about it at http://jotnot.com/iphone/. If you just want to skip all of that and get straight to downloading it you can get it from iTunes here.

Buy JotNot on iTunes

The iPhone application is slightly different from the current Android application. All of the processing is done on the phone itself. None of your data is sent to the web, which means you can now process images of whiteboards or documents containing confidential or sensitive information that you wouldn’t want to share.

Look for an update in the very near future for the Android app which will make it standalone as well.  In the mean time we have extended the beta until April 10th.

Our processing is back to normal speed

Just wanted to let everyone know that our processing servers have been brought back up to normal speed. Once again we’d all like to apologize about the delay in processing.

We’ve also been spending some time on increasing the speed and accuracy of our processing the past couple of weeks. Some of those changes have made it in already, and some are still to come. Stay tuned for more updates.

JotNot’s Hiccuping

There’s a problem with our severs right now—so the JotNot service might be a little slower than usual.  Please bear with us and we will let you know when things are back to normal.

Another update for the Android JotNot Application

Another week, another update to our beta version of the JotNot application for Android. Before I get into what’s new in this version I’d like to thank our users for trying out our applications. An even more empahtic ‘thank you’ to users who took the time to provide us with feedback.

In this version we’ve added a few new features, a couple of bugfixes, and some changes to the interface:

New Features

  • You can now change the title of a note before saving it
  • The autofocus responds to a soft press on the camera button
  • The enhanced images have higher contrast
  • Deleting works!

Bug Fixes

  • The application uses significantly less memory
  • The uploading and downloading of images should be faster and less memory intensive
  • Less errors which cause a ‘force close’
  • Deleting items outside of our application (e.g. in the “pictures” application) doesn’t cause the application to crash

User Interface Changes

  • An indicator for the autofocus was added
  • A help and tips screen was added
  • The view screen looks better now, all of the options are in the context menu (press the menu button to see them)

As always, if you have any suggestions, feedback, bug reports, feature requests, or anything else feel free to e-mail us at support@jotnot.com, we’d love to hear from you.

Google Android Client (beta)

We launched our beta Android G1 client last night.  If you are on a G1 browsing this post, you can download it here (it might be temporarily unvailable as we fix bugs).  If you tried it out, thank you and thank you for your feedback and comments!  Demand for the application exceeded our wildest expectations.  Consequently, we’ve been having some technical difficulties so please bear with us.  We are upgrading our capacity and we will be releasing updates frequently over the next few days so please stay tuned.

Better image processing

We just updated the JotNot image enhancement engine and made our backend a little faster.  You should now get your documents back even faster.

JotNot is now open to the public!

JotNot makes it easy to capture and share pictures of documents and whiteboards.  Just take a picture, email it to bw@jotnot.com for a black and white document, or to color@jotnot.com for a color document.  In a few seconds we’ll email you back with new version of your picture that prints well and is more legible.  It really is that easy—you don’t even have to sign up for an account to use JotNot!

We’d love to know what you think and how we can improve—just shoot us an email at support@jotnot.com.
